Youth Engaged in Philanthropy

By MarionMade! on March 8, 2018

What is philanthropy?

Youth Engaged in Philanthropy is a program of Marion Community Foundation helping area high school students not only learn the answer to the “philanthropy” question, but also put it into practice. High school seniors from each of the Marion area schools meet monthly to learn more about our local community, organizations, and businesses. These youth experience philanthropy first hand by conducting a grants process and ultimately awarding a grant to a local nonprofit organization. Similarly, these students make an award recommendation for the Youth Engaged in Philanthropy scholarship.

Members completed a walking tour of downtown Marion, met with a panel of donors to area nonprofits, worked through a speed networking session featuring seven local organizations, and recently heard how various nonprofit, government, and businesses collaborate to prevent and treat addictions. Youth Engaged in Philanthropy is a program that educates students on the variety and impact of philanthropy in Marion. In the past, Youth Engaged in Philanthropy has awarded grants to Leapin’ Outreach, Marion City Schools, Scioto Valley Fire District, and others. This grant process has given high school seniors the knowledge and opportunity to impact our community for today and in the future.

All that changed in 1983 when the Ohio General Assembly […]Read More »

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT. Built in 1950, the Marion Municipal Airport appears modest to the naked eye in comparison to its importance to Marion. During the month of October we are highlighting information about the K9 units of Marion County. The dogs are trained to conduct building and large area searches for hidden criminals, tracking lost persons and criminals, article/evidence searches, and narcotics detection. Though this is a light-hearted interview — asking questions as if the dogs have voices […]Read More »
