July 4th in Prospect

By MarionMade! on July 3, 2019

“Community” defines Prospect’s 4th of July Celebration! Once started as the Prospect Fireman’s Festival in the mid 1900’s, the name was changed to Prospect 4th of July Celebration as a more encompassing name. The celebration is always on July 4 and is a jointly sponsored event between the Battle Run Fire Association and the Prospect Lions Club. The beautiful setting of the Prospect Park is the location for the event. Over the years, this event has grown to be known for great BBQ chicken, burgers, funnel cakes, children-friendly games, bingo, raffles, and music–with it all topped off at dusk with fireworks. It is always a family-friendly atmosphere, which continues to bring the community together.
The celebration attracts people from a large radius across our county and throughout Central Ohio; but, more importantly, brings local families together year after year for activities while celebrating Independence Day.
Local support often shines bright. Each year, there is an amazing raffle made possible through multiple local and Central Ohio business donations. More than 200 prizes are up for grabs. Local business and staunch Prospect supporter Mike’s Roofing sponsored this year’s main musical entertainment–Direct Energy. This is only a small sample of the sense of community that this event emulates.
The Prospect Lions are part of a national group and the Battle Run Fire & EMS are a local unit; yet, both are dedicated to the well-being of others. Lions have a worldwide “Save the Sight” program, 14 local /district projects, and various activities that contribute to their motto, “We Serve.”
Battle Run Fire & EMS participates in local educational scholarships designed to follow safety service careers such as fire, EMS, and nursing. School age children have learned about Safety Village for the past 35 years.
