Johnny Steiner

By MarionMade! on December 6, 2017

STEINER͛S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGHOUT CENTRAL OHIO AND BEYOND.

You might know Johnny Steiner from his days in Green Camp, where he grew up, or at Elgin High School, or especially at the Marion Palace Theatre, where he performed his favorite roles include Billy in “Carousel” and Curly in “Oklahoma!”. In 2005, he played the title role of Will in “The Will Rogers Follies.”

For many years, he was a private voice instructor and worked in and around the Marion Palace Theatre in many capacities, including the Youth Summer Camps. In Columbus, Johnny served as choir director at Saint Charles Preparatory School for 18 years, and six years at North Congregational UCC. He has been featured in several ad campaigns for the Kroger Company and the Ohio State Fair, and done voice-over work for McGraw-Hill Education. Johnny has sung on stage with Barry Manilow, comedian Bob Newhart, and the late Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Marvin Hamlisch.

Today, Johnny is the artistic director for Vaud-Villities, is the associate director of music at Church of the Messiah UMC in Westerville, the conductor of VOCALities, and has a roster of 25 private voice students. Johnny performs year-round, and has seven albums to his credit, recently releasing the acclaimed “City Sidewalks” in 2017.

Johnny believes that we are who are today because of everyone and everything in our lives up until now. He is grateful to all his friends and family in Marion.

Johnny said, “I had an extraordinary experience there, and am thrilled each and every time I return. I can’t say enough things about the impact my teachers and instructors had — and continue to have — on me — Tanyce Addison and Max Griffith at Elgin, and George Schram, Carol Hansen, and Clare Cooke at the Palace Theatre. All of them are extraordinary at their respective crafts, and I am forever grateful to them for sharing their gifts with me.”

Though Johnny lives and works now in Columbus he has the MarionMade! spirit.
