Crusin’ for Dialysis

By MarionMade! on July 1, 2017

CRUISIN FOR DIALYSIS.
 .
Can anything be more enjoyable on a summer day than strolling down the middle of a downtown street taking in dozens of classic cars on a sunny day? Knowing you are helping to support people and families coping with the everyday struggles that result from an illness that requires kidney dialysis treatment certainly adds to that feeling. The mission of the event, held the first Saturday in June on Center Street in downtown Marion, is to support dialysis patients and their families in a seven-county area.
 .
One of the great features of this, or any car show, is the ability to talk to the car owners and get the back story on the vehicle – where it came from, the restoration story, or why the car is special to the owner. And, if you are lucky, you might even get an invitation to sit behind the wheel of a classic auto. Food vendors, children’s activities and Marion’s own downtown shops and restaurants complete the event; so, visitors can spend a pleasant afternoon reminiscing about the days of the Model T, muscle cars, and classics trucks and motorcycles.
 .
Now in its 25th year, the June event starts at noon, as up to 200 vintage cars line both sides of Center Street. The fundraising event affects the lives of more than 100 patients at the Heart of Ohio Dialysis Center in Marion, dozens of others at the Crawford County Kidney Center in Bucyrus and countless people on home treatment in central Ohio.
