Christmas by Candlelight

CHRISTMAS BY CANDLELIGHT

Piling in the car and driving through neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights is a childhood memory many of us share. From the tasteful displays to the Griswold excesses to the high-tech orchestrations, there is something special about Christmas lights. And, there is something very special about Christmas lights in Marion.

For the past 22 years, Marion’s only drive-through holiday light display has reveled visitors form near and far at the Marion County Fairgrounds. The 25-acre experience includes thousands of lights, animated characters, and traditional holiday scenes. The display is affordable, only $6 per car and is open Thursday–Sundays from Thanksgiving through Christmas, every night Christmas week.

Cindy Wood, Secretary/Treasurer of the Marion County Fair Board and overseer of events at the Fairgrounds says, “Our light display is unique to our Community. This is a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends and kick in the Holiday spirit. Christmas by Candlelight is such a nice holiday display in our own backyard and is a great activity to support in our unique town.”

The display attracts visitors locally, from surrounding Counties and even as far away as Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia, and Michigan. Why travel so far to see Christmas lights? Perhaps it is the Floating Serpentine in the sea of lights, the Toy Shop or the crowd favorite The Dancing Flowers. Or it could be the Live Nativity on Saturday and Sunday nights. Whatever the reason, Christmas by Candlelight has been brightening up the holiday season for thousand each year and promises to do so for many more.
