SENIORS GET CREATIVE AT THE MARION PUBLIC LIBRARY.

Marion Public Library has received another grant from the Ohio Arts Council to offer programing for seniors aged 62+. Facilitated by Debra Fink Bachelder, gerontologist and Master Instructional Artist, these sessions allow seniors to put their creativity to work in an environment that is focused on improving skills and creating a finished product.

Book Arts are the theme of the program overall, with multiple sessions focused on different topics. The program also offers an environment where gathering at a public facility gets seniors out of the house and engaged in a public activity. It fosters mental stimulation and a social connection through the arts.

There will be two more sessions, limited to 15 people per session. The next session starts January 19 and runs four consecutive Fridays. This particular class will explore unusual paper structures where participants are encouraged to add their words or images to tell a story. The goal is to create a new playful book per week.

The last session will start March 2 and be a four-week program as well. For this one, it will use landscape or still life photos, making a variety of books including a simple sewn section, self-mailer, meander-style books and concertina with wrap.

This program is free of charge and for people over 55. People just need to register by stopping into the Library or calling them — 740-387-0992.
