TWIG

By MarionMade! on January 3, 2018

TWIG.
.
Together We Inspire Giving or TWIG is a volunteer program that was designed in the 1950’s to support the work of Marion General Hospital. At that time there were just a couple of groups who provided volunteer help as well as conducted fundraising events to support the hospital’s mission “To Improve the Health of Those We Serve.”
.
Since those early days, more support has been added and today there are eight TWIG groups, TWIG council plus TWIG I–VII. Each of the TWIG organizations have a particular focus and conduct various fund raising events and provide volunteer hours that combined with the hospital service volunteers total more than 20,000 hours annually.
.
The first TWIG to organize began with the introduction of The Well Baby Clinic in 1954. Aptly it was named TWIG I. Recognizing the importance of being good stewards of the donated funds they were receiving, TWIG I determined that after sixty years of providing free well child services through the clinic, their services were a bit redundant as the Center Street Community Health Center, physician groups and Marion Public Health began providing many of the same services. They refocused their attention to what is today the TWIG OhioHealthyKids Club.
.
TWIG II supports the work of the OB and Pediatric units at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital through fundraising projects like Friends and Family Days at Scioto Shoe Mart and the biennial Auction of the Greens.
.
TWIG III operates the gift shop inside the hospital and supports the work of Oncology and Behavioral Health, as well as other needs within the hospital.
.
The TWIG IV, Marion Board of Realtors has been conducting an annual golf outing and auction for thirty years as well as offers Cupcake Wars and the Remembrance Tree project each year and supports the work of OhioHealth Home Care and Hospice.
.
TWIG V has been around since 1956. They began by providing telephone and television rental services to patients at the hospital, transitioned to car seats and lifeline services and, today, supports the work of the Forensic Nurse team in the emergency department as well as the Employee Emergency Assistance Fund.
.
TWIG VI is the Garden Club. These volunteers maintain the rosebeds that surround the hospital as well as the Hospice Survivors Garden by McKinely Park and a garden at the Tall Grass Trail.
.
TWIG VII operates the gift shop on the outpatient Marion Medical Campus and supports the work of rehab services and general hospital needs.
.
Together the TWIG organizations contribute thousands of dollars back into the hospital to help make the patient experience the best it can be. The support of the Marion Community over the decades has been phenomenal and TWIG is planning to continue their philanthropic work for decades to come!
