Cummins Facility Services: 50 Years of Service Excellence

For 50 years, Cummins Facility Services (CFS) has been part of the Marion Community.

Founded in 1972 by local residents Ron and Myra Cummins at their kitchen table, CFS started by providing janitorial services and floor care to local businesses. Ron took great pride in making old surfaces look new again. Myra worked hard on taking care of the books and administrative tasks to keep the business running in great shape!

In 1994, Ron and Myra turned over leadership to their daughter. Jill Frey took the family-owned business with 15 employees, rooted in Marion, Ohio, to a workforce of more than 500 people with national reach.

Frey’s Marion roots run deep. CFS employees pride themselves on treating clients with that same level of personalized, hometown touch with the support of a large-scale operation. CFS now has offices in Marion and Findlay as well as Michigan, Tennessee, and Florida.

CFS tackled the changing business needs both internally and for customers as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic. Like many businesses, CFS has shifted how they clean, plan and adapt to the evolving needs of clients. A rapid-response team was founded based on practicing guidelines for cleanliness from the Center for Disease Control, combined with new ways to disinfect with electrostatic and comprehensive disinfecting solutions. Cummins recognized the need to train and certify their employees to take measures to prevent the virus from affecting customers’ facilities, knowing that the livelihood of many small businesses relies on their ability to keep their doors open.

There is not a moment when CFS is not working towards excellence. Whether it is continuous training through Cummins University for employees to certify and maintain knowledge of the industry, or the Cummins STAR program that recognizes employees for leading their co-workers in Safety, Teamwork, Attention to Detail, and Relationships, Cummins is always striving for better. CFS offers career growth by promoting from within and fulfilling the interest in growth and dedication of employees.

While many things have remained the same for Cummins, one of the biggest changes has been the partnerships and certifications as a result of demand from technological changes in facility management and a desire to be the best in the industry. The certifications from third parties hold Cummins to a higher standard in terms of what “best-in-class” service means. Rigorous criteria must be met to maintain certification standards by top cleaning companies around the world. Cummins is recognized for providing high-quality services to maintain its strong service reputation. The company also uses a proactive cleaning response recommended by ISSA, a leading world trade association for the industry.

This 100% woman-owned business is dedicated to supporting the local community. Whether offering COVID disinfection for police cruisers, filling backpacks with school supplies for local children, supporting fundraisers for pediatric cancer, or providing cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer to local businesses and schools, CFS always wants to give back.

CFS has participated in events hosted by the Marion County Board of Developmental

Disabilities, playing in the local kickball tournament and passing out candy in a local drive-through Halloween event. CFS remains active in the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on the board for many years, and sponsoring community events when the need arises.

“Every opportunity to support the Marion community and the people that live here is the key to forming great relationships. It is these relationships that are the backbone of a thriving community. When we are in a position to help impact the community in a positive way, we should make the most of it,” stated Fey, President, and CEO of Cummins Facility Services.

Grateful to the fellow business leaders, teachers, and mentors who have supported her through the years, Frey is proud that Cummins Facility Services is MarionMade! and committed to supporting the growth and development of this great community.
