Back to School with Robert Britton

By MarionMade! on September 24, 2018

During the month of September, we will be featuring each of the school superintendent s in Marion County, asking them each the same set of questions.  We are using this as an opportunity to share their passion for education and their schools, as well as a little glimpse about them as individuals. Today, we visit with, Robert Britton, the Ridgedale Local Schools Superintendent.  We are thrilled you are MarionMade!

What made you want to be in education?

Honestly, it was coaching I had been working summer basketball camps as a college player and really enjoyed working with the young players. I wanted to provide a positive experience like the one that I had when I was in High School.

How long how you been in the education field?  How long in Marion County?

This is the beginning of my 32nd year in education. My wife and I have been in Marion County for 21 years, 10 years at Elgin and the past 11 at Ridgedale.

What was your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subject in school was probably Anatomy and Physiology. I was fascinated with the human body and how it worked; it was a very engaging class with many lab experiments that gave me real life, everyday applications.

What is your favorite book to reread and why?

I really do not have a favorite re-read. I am currently reading several different coaching books, that I feel will help me in my current position. For pleasure reading, I like to read historical texts, such as biographies or autobiographies.

What do you believe are important skills to help a student be successful in school?

A willingness to learn, I feel that it is important for students to take ownership of their learning. Also, commitment to learning, we as humans are natural life-long learners and the day that we stop that process is the day that we start our mental demise.

If you had 3 wishes for your students this year in school, what would you wish?

  • – Building strong positive relationships
  • – Accomplishing the goals that they have set for themselves.
  • – Be a positive role model for your peers and those younger kids that look up to you.

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you.

I am beginning my 12th year on the Central District Athletic Board and currently serve on the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors.

Thank you, Robert, for sharing with MarionMade!
