Yellow Finch Expands to Add Event Space with The Nest

By Wendy Weichenthal on November 18, 2024

A couple smiles in front of a large decorated arch. Chad is a tall white man with a smile, backwards hat, gray button-downed shirt over a black T-shirt, a visible tattoo sleeve, dark skinny jeans and brown shoes. Leiha is a shorter woman with a smile, blonde wavy hair, a purple and black plaid sweater over a black shirt, a long silver necklace, a black skirt and black sandals.
Chad Mays and Leiha Lamb expanded Yellow Finch Creations catering to add The Nest event space.

After three years of perfecting charcuterie and catering, Leiha Lamb and her fiancé, Chad Mays, are serving up something new. Yellow Finch Creations is now offering a small event rental space called The Nest at 119 W. Huber St. Suite 101.

“From weddings to celebrations of life, baby showers to birthday parties, this is a new option for those who want to take the stress off hosting an event,” Lamb said.

The Nest by Yellow Finch Creations offers an event space for small groups up to about 50 people for weddings, showers, birthday parties and holiday events.

The space can fit about 50 people with tables and chairs arranged to the renter’s specifications.

The Nest Offers Wedding & Holiday Packages

The Nest also offers a micro-wedding package that includes four hours of space rental, a small charcuterie board, and a small cake from Andrew’s Pastries as well as an arch, flowers and other décor. Lamb is also an ordained officiant.

“So far, I’ve married three couples!” Lamb shared.

Businesses looking for a holiday party location or families worried about running out of table space can also reserve The Nest. Some local businesses have booked charcuterie classes as a holiday party. Outside catering is also an option.

Cooking is a Lamb Family Tradition

Lamb’s business is now in the space her great-great-grandfather, Whitey Lamb, operated as a store. It later became a bar that bore his name.

Lamb named Yellow Finch Creations after the favorite bird of her grandmother, Norma Baldauf. Lamb learned to cook from her father and grandmother.

“My grandma and my dad taught me if you love people, you feed them. They both made me fall in love with being in a kitchen. It’s my happy place,” Lamb said.

Yellow Finch Creations Offers Custom Catering

Lamb and Mays pride themselves on meeting a customer’s specifications.

“I talk to customers to figure out what they want and what they need. Everything is custom curated based on what you want. If you can think it up, I can make it happen,” Lamb said. “We don’t have a cookie-cutter menu.”

Lamb also provides safe options for those with food allergies or preferences.

For those feeling slammed or not fond of cooking, Lamb can provide a charcuterie board or another dish to bring to those holiday dinners.

“If you don’t know what to bring to the holiday party, order from me!” Lamb said.

Yellow Finch Creations recently received an order from a returning customer.

“Thank you for being a part of our Thanksgiving tradition!” the customer wrote.

Yellow Finch Creations made a custom Thanksgiving-themed table with deviled eggs, mini-individual cheeseballs, marinated olives, and sandwiches.

Business Serves Clients of All Sizes

Lamb and Mays have met the needs of client of all sizes, from large events such as a meeting of the Ohio Grocers Association in New Albany to individual trays for a home Superbowl party.

They’ve also made comfort food dishes to take to families who are grieving instead of a traditional casserole. They’ve even offered barkuterie boxes as dog presents on holidays.

“One dog treat looked so good as it was wrapped up, I had to warn a friend not to eat it!” Lamb says with a smile.

“The business has grown a lot! We’ve expanded to include custom gift baskets, some carry-out lunch specials, boxed lunches and occasionally a pop-up shop at The Nest. We have a small retail section if you want to take some treats home,” Lamb said.

Supportive Business Community in Marion

Lamb enjoys being a part of Marion’s thriving downtown business community. They work with other local businesses, such as collaborating with Sweada Mae Art Café to have a charcuterie board class at Marion Brewing Company to a charcuterie class at Shovel City Drinkery.

“We’re trying to support other local businesses,” Lamb said.

The Nest is participating in the Pink Weekend to encourage customers to shop small. Lamb and Mays appreciate customers who have decided to order local instead of from a national company or a large chain. They hope clients appreciate their personal touch.

Yellow Finch Creations is participating on the Pink Weekend in downtown Marion on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday Nov. 23 from 10 am to 7 pm. The event promotes shoppers to support local small businesses. there will be giveaways and promotions at participating boutiques and restaurants.

“It’s more of an experience than just food,” Lamb said. “When you buy local, your money stays here in the community.”
