United Church Homes

By MarionMade! on December 6, 2017

UNITED CHURCH HOMES.

United Church Homes (UCH), a nonprofit, faith-based organization headquartered in Marion, Ohio, is one of the nation’s largest providers of senior living services. Today, UCH owns and manages 13 senior retirement communities in Ohio and Michigan and 59 affordable housing communities in 14 states and two Native American nations.

The ministry that evolved into UCH started in 1916, when five pastors serving churches in the Toledo Chassis of the German Reformed Church recognized the need to provide care for their oldest members. The first community was in Holland before moving to Toledo,  then Upper Sandusky. German Reformed Churches from Ohio to Wisconsin and farther west supported the mission.

The communities that UCH owns and manages in Ohio include Fairhaven (Upper Sandusky), Chapel Hill (Canal Fulton), Trinity and Trinity Community at Fairwood (Beavercreek), Parkvue (Sandusky), Patriot Ridge (Fairborn), Four Winds (Jackson), Harmar Place and Glenwood (Marietta), SEM Haven (Milford) and Friendship Village (Columbus.) UCH also owns Pilgrim Manor (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and manages Uplands Village (Pleasant Hill, Tennessee.)

Affordable housing is another important part of UCH’s mission, which is to transform aging by building a culture of community, wholeness and peace. One of these 59 communities is Brownstone Terrace, located in Marion.

“UCH enjoys a positive relationship to Marion and wants to be more involved in the renaissance of downtown Marion and to further support the growing economy of the county,” said Rev. Kenneth V. Daniel, president and CEO.

UCH has a strong culture of giving. It hosts regular American Red Cross blood drives, gives to United Way of Marion County, organizes Salvation Army food drives and participates in Relay For Life, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce and downtown clean-up. UCH took part in the redevelopment of the Center and State Building, relocating its finance and human resources departments to the loft space on the third floor. It also provides internships for Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University at Marion students, and has sponsored students from Marion County high schools and Rushmore Academy.
