Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities sponsors teams and athletes to participate in the Special Olympic Program. Their athletes get a variety of health benefits from their year-round training, as well as, a chance to compete with others. The Special Olympics instill confidence and pride in their athletes, on the field and in their lives. They participate in area events and state competitions, offering friendly rivalry and an opportunity to show off their abilities. Some athletes develop new skills and may move to a different sport where they can become more successful.
Marion County DD also offers unified sports and events to bring all parts of the Marion community together. You can also participate by donating, like other local organizations and individuals. For example, they are involved in the Kroger Community Rewards program where they receive quarterly donations just for people linking their Kroger card and shopping! Be sure to keep an eye on the Marion County Special Olympics Facebook page for updates on games, as you’re encouraged to attend events and support our atheletes!
