Marion Matters has been touching hearts and changing lives in the Marion community since 2009. This program was based around Bridges Out of Poverty and is nationally recognized. Bridges is the concept of people being raised in different cultures of poverty, middle class, or wealth. Each culture is unique in its language and life. Understanding the differences between poverty, middle class, and wealth can help break barriers from one class to another. Marion Matters’ mission is “To provide leadership in developing and sustaining pathways out of poverty through education and support.” Marion Matters believes poverty erodes the growth, health, and stability of the community.
DEVELOPING AND SUSTAINING PATHWAYS OUT OF POVERTY
Getting Ahead, Transitions, Financial Literacy, and R-Rules is the full course Marion Matters offers. Each class is structured to teach valuable skills to help manage life in a complex environment. Students of the program will learn communication skills, setting goals, and financial stability. Employer Resource Network is the newest addition to Marion Matters. This program provides a confidential success coach on the job site; it’s a low-cost shared resource to help improve employee retention and productivity. Marion is the first county in Ohio to endorse the program and has gained governmental attention by doing so.
Everyone in Marion County will have the opportunity to reach their potential. This vision provided the tools for former students of Marion Matters to turn life around.
